Interactive Robotics Workshops

NEW this year! The 2021 NYSCATE Hands-On Workshops are focused on ROBOTICS! Each workshop is led by NYS Educators who have successfully integrated Robotics into their classrooms. Sign up for an interactive learning experience to bring back to your classroom, library, or Maker Space. Engage learners and integrate critical thinking and computational thinking skills that provide opportunities for problem-solving and collaboration. Price of the workshop includes the robotics needed to participate in the workshop.

Google Trainer

Let’s Rock out Google together! Now that you have your Level 1 and Level 2 Certifications (or are on your way to having them), what is next? TRAINER! Come join us for a two-day institute that will prepare you for applying for the Certified Google Trainer Application. Learn how to Apply Google tricks and applications to the classroom as well as proper training techniques and skills to move educators beyond the basics with Google. After this two-day training, participants will have the skills needed to take their skills assessment as well as be on their way with the materials needed for their application.

This session will teach educators how to get up and running with Microsoft Teams. They will learn how to access and navigate Teams, create a new Team, copy an existing Team, and hide an old Team. They will also learn how to add co-teachers and students, modify settings to customize their Team, create channels, post and reply to a post, create an assignment, and more!

Makey-Makey

Makey Makey started out as a project that was initiated by two students at MIT Media Lab under the advisorship of Mitch Resnick and is an academic and artistic project. Now it’s both a business and a project with thousands of community collaborators, with more joining the ranks of inventors everyday. Get ready for a fun hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to teach Invention Literacy, Making, and Design Thinking using the award winning Makey Makey invention kit used by educators in all 50 states and around the world and featured in TED talks.

During this 3-hour hands-on workshop, attendees will learn theory of integrating robotics into the classroom for all curricular areas, how to code through learning experiences, and explore integration resources. Lego Robotics

During this 3-hour professional learning experience facilitated by a LEGO® Education Academy Certified Teacher Trainer, attendees will participate in a hands-on session and get a foundational introduction to LEGO Robotics by practicing ways of using LEGO® Education’s lesson plans to engage your students in critical thinking and complex problem-solving. Attendees will learn how to combine the engineering design process with coding, for use in STEAM teaching at any learning level – both in the classroom and virtually.
