Board of Directors Member Spotlight Introducing Dustin Andrus
For the past 12 years, Dustin Andrus has been a dedicated advocate for educational technology as NYSCATE's Director of the Southern Tier. His commitment to expanding opportunities for educators and students has helped strengthen both the Southern Tier region and NYSCATE as a statewide organization. Dustin first joined the NYSCATE Board after seeing the positive impact the organization was making across New York. Recognizing the tremendous potential for growth in educational technology throughout the Southern Tier, he knew that meaningful change would require strong partnerships and a network of passionate educators. NYSCATE provided exactly that foundation. One of Dustin's proudest accomplishments has been helping establish and grow the annual Southern Tier ConnectED Conference. What began as a regional initiative has evolved into a collaborative event spanning both the Broome-Tioga and GST BOCES regions, creating greater access for schools while strengthening partnerships across organizations. Beyond the conference, Dustin has helped connect NYSCATE with initiatives including the South Central RIC Leadership and Innovation Showcase, the B-T BOCES Leadership Academy, and numerous grant-supported projects that continue to benefit educators throughout the region. Throughout his years of service, including multiple terms as NYSCATE Board President, Dustin says the greatest gift has been the mentorship he received from fellow board members. "Serving alongside experienced leaders who were willing to mentor me has been priceless. It's an opportunity I could not have found anywhere else, and one for which I'll always be grateful." When asked about his favorite NYSCATE memory, Dustin smiles at the simple moments: early morning coffee conversations with fellow board members Paul Rubio and Mike Sylofski, where discussions often shifted from work to life and lifelong friendships were strengthened. His advice to future board members reflects his leadership philosophy: "Being a board member is about being a good steward of the organization. Care for the people, care for the mission, and always ask yourself whether you're leaving NYSCATE, its employees, and your fellow board members in a better place than you found them." Outside of education, Dustin enjoys exploring America's National Parks with his fiance, Cory. Among his favorites are North Cascades, Grand Teton, and Big Bend National Parks. He's also an unapologetic roller coaster enthusiast and jokes that if responsibilities weren't a factor, every morning would begin with a ride on VelociCoaster at Universal Islands of Adventure before heading off to hike another mountain. Thank you, Dustin, for your years of leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to advancing educational technology across New York State. |
