CETL® Certification Cohort


NEW Opportunity for NYSCATE Members: Join the CETL Certification Cohort!
NYSCATE is excited to announce a new professional learning opportunity for members looking to advance their careers in educational technology leadership! We're launching a CETL Cohort Group—a small, focused team of 15 members (first come, first served) who will study together and prepare to take the CoSN Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL®) exam.

Participating members will receive:
  • 📘 Textbook
    • ​Certified EdTech Leadership: The key to growing as a K12 CTO Through Standards-based Best Practices, by Mike Daugherty
  • 📝 CETL Exam Fee – Paid by NYSCATE ($499 value included in registration fee)
  • 🤝 Weekly Cohort Study Sessions – Collaborate, learn, and grow with your peers starting January 27, 2026​

What to expect!

What is the CETL Certification?
The Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL®) certification, offered by CoSN (Consortium for School Networking), is a nationally recognized credential that signifies mastery in education technology leadership. It validates a leader’s knowledge in three essential skill areas:
  1. Leadership & Vision
  2. Understanding the Educational Environment
  3. Managing Technology & Support Resources

This certification is ideal for current and aspiring technology directors, CTOs, instructional technology leaders, and edtech decision-makers in K-12 education.
📅 CETL Cohort Schedule
Cohort Launch: Winter 2026​

Bi-weekly Study Sessions:
  • 1-hour virtual sessions 
  • Dates: January 27, February 3, 10, 17, and 24 at 4:30 PM
    • ​Dates may be adjusted based on cohort and leader schedules
  • Each session will focus on a key section of the CETL framework
  • Collaborative, supportive, and designed for busy professionals

CETL® Exam Administration 
  • The exam is administered at authorized Pearson VUE testing centers worldwide or via remote secure proctoring. Additional details for the administration of the exam will be provided on the first day of class.

Kieran O’Connor has served as the Executive Director of Planning, Development & Technology for East Syracuse Minoa Schools since 2008. Prior to this role, he worked at Cortland City Schools as the Director of Technology and began his career there as an 8th and 9th grade social studies teacher in 1990.
