NYSCATE is excited to be one of the charter members of the Ed Tech Action Network! One of the characteristics that we all have in common is that we believe technology can truly have an impact on the work we do everyday for students. As such, we rely on the continued support and funding from both the state and federal governments. Recently, ISTE and COSN created a mechanism through which educators can communicate to the decision makers in Washington. This network, known as ETAN (Educational Technology Action Network), is facilitated electronically through the ETAN web site (www.edtechactionnetwork.org/). Because Senator Clinton sits on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committee, which is responsible for all legislation involving educational issues, New York is considered to be in a key position to make a difference. It is essential then that she, Senator Schumer, and the other NYS Representatives hear from New Yorkers about the need to support legislation involving educational technology. To this end, NYSCATE is asking that you take a minute to join the ETAN network. It’s easy and painless. Simply go to the web site and follow the links to join. Once you do this, you will receive monthly updates about what’s happening in Washington with respect to educational policy and legislation. Periodically, you will be asked to respond to a Call for Action. This occurs when there is some critical issue at hand that jeopardizes the funding for educational technology. When you receive a CFA, it's easy to get involved. From the ETAN web site, you can contact your Senators and Congress men and women and let them know how important it is to continue supporting educational technology. Your efforts can make a difference. Just recently, a CFA was issued surrounding the reallocation of a particular set of television channels that had been reserved for educational use. Hundreds of people responded and the decision was turned around. As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Join today! Related Links:
