Dunno Much About the Game Industry

Dunno Much About the Game Industry

Presenter: Steven Jacobs

Working in the Industry is scoring as high as the second choice of middle and high schools
students (after pro sports) in recent surveys. What are the careers? How can students be
prepared for them? Do they need advanced degrees? What should they be looking for in
higher education institutions? In this session we'll try to answer these questions and point you
to a variety of resources that will help both you and your students be better prepared for the road
ahead. Stephen Jacobs is a Professor of Game Design and Development at RIT and a Game
Designer for Ratatoskr Entertainment, Inc. He is the Outreach Coordinator for the Education
Special Interest Group of the International Game Developers Association.

Where Teachers Learn, Where Teachers Teach

Where Teachers Learn, Where Teachers Teach

Presenter: Sylvia Martinez

This session will present research that counters the idea that “not enough professional
development” is the cause of technology not being used in the classroom. For many teachers,
they only receive technology professional development outside the classroom, and it never
crosses the doorstep into the classroom. This session will explore two models of professional
development that cross that barrier: classroom embedded professional development and
student-led professional development.
