NYSCATE/SUNY Smart Schools Summit: Digital Literacy Practices: Teaching & Learning in Today’s P-20 Classroom
State University of New York at New Paltz
1 Hawk Drive
New Paltz, NY 12561
Inspired by the Smart Schools Bond Act, the 3rd annual Smart Schools Summit is a gathering of P-20 educators in the service of education technology professional development and collaboration.
Facilitated by NYSCATE, SUNY, and edtech industry experts throughout New York State, the Summit features timely, interactive learning sessions and vendor exhibits for sharing best edtech practices.
This year’s theme, “Digital Literacy Practices in Today’s P-20 Classroom,” urges presenters and participants to consider the many facets of both the consumption and production of digital texts. The term “digital literacy” can be broadly interpreted here to include media literacy, technology literacy, and technology fluency in all content areas. In the era of fake news, it is ever more important for students, teachers, and teacher educators to possess the skills necessary to not only access, read, and create multimodal texts, but also to determine their authenticity.
