Active Learning in the 21st Century Classroom - (Tags: nyscate08a07, nyscate08) Presenter: Joel Ryan Interactive whiteboards, wireless tablets and digital presenters are the latest innovations in classroom technology. Learn how classroom teachers can effectively use these technologies in the classroom to support curriculum objectives. Join our presenters who are educators that have worked with teachers for over a decade in helping them make sense of all this technology. Learn how to create an active learning environment for students that will engage, excite and educate them in the Troxell "21st Century Classroom”. Tech Talk – A 21st Century Professional Development Program - (Tags: nyscate08a08, nyscate08) Presenter: Ben Higgins & JoAnn DePue This session will focus on how to introduce emerging technologies to your staff in a successful manner. Tech Talk is a half-day web course used by Springville-Griffith Institute CSD to allow their staff the opportunity to learn about available hardware, software, and web based products through the use of 21st century skills.
Manage, Organize, & Learn from Your Events - (Tags: nyscate08a09, nyscate08) Presenter: Barbara Lipiew & Jeff Clift Web based software assists in announcing, planning and recording every detail of your events. Employees and the public can register or sign up for an automated waiting list. Keep registrants informed of changes, record attendance data, and e-mail certificates and evaluation forms with ease. Repeat events are a snap with saved information.
Creating Personal Learning Networks with Web 2.0 Tools - (Tags: nyscate08a10, nyscate08) Presenter: Ted Sakshaug Participants will learn how to use various web tools to develop their own personal learning network. Tools used will include- but are not limitted to- Twitter, diggo, RSS readers and other social networking tools. Participants will learn to find tools to use and people to share with. Managing 21st Century Technological Change - (Tags: nyscate08a11, nyscate08) Presenter: Pat Aroune How Communities of Practice, K-12 benchmarks, and an overarching framework can accelerate the rate of technological instruction within a school district.
Integrating Macs into Your District - (Tags: nyscate08a03, nyscate08) Presenter: David Henderson Macintosh computers have become an increasingly popular choice to purchase. This presentation will cover particulars on how to incorporate Macs into your environment. Integration with Active Directory, eDirectory, print servers, and desktop control will be discussed.

Gain knowledge of the power of multi-age education to support the skill of fluent oral reading and literacy growth with your students.
Rubber to the Road: Making Technology Integration Work - (Tags: nyscate08a02, nyscate08) Presenter: Michael Virgil & Philip Sheridan This workshop will describe how to provide high end technology resources and staff development to enhance instruction. A particular emphasis will be placed on the use of technology to support district curriculum goals and the New York State Learning Standards.
Participants will be provided with information regarding the management of funds, purchase of equipment and utilization of personnel to support technology. In addition, sample lesson plans, best practices in technology, lists of software, and demonstration of software and hardware will be provided.
Using Your Bean - (Tags: nyscate08a05, nyscate08) Presenter: Brian Blaszak & Donna Frymire This session will showcase the basics of how to utilize your Bean which you received as part of NYSCATE this year. Discussions of classroom use, how to share and the basics of use will all be presented.
Session B (Sunday, November 23, 1:45-2:45) Leaving Digital Footprints that Count - (Tags: nyscate08b12, nyscate08) Presenter: Stephen Ransom In this highly digital and connected world, one's digital footprint is expected or required in many instances, and is monitored in others. Educators must assist students in creating positive and powerful digital footprints that work to their advantage, not simply ensure that such footprints are sanitized or nonexistent altogether.
Using Blogs and Wikis in the Primary Grades - (Tags: nyscate08b06, nyscate08) Presenter: Cathleen Hutter & Steve Lian The workshop will focus on sharing a variety of projects that used wikis or blogs in a first and second grade classroom. We will discuss how the use of blogs/wikis improved or changed the projects. The participants will learn where to go to set up their own free blogs and wikis to use with their own classes. It will include considerations for allocation, evaluation and staff development. Innovative practices across grades six, seven and eight will be shared.

Get ideas for your own transition to digital and hear the advantages and disadvantages of implementing a digital program. Tips for program advocacy, funding and developing curriculum will be included. Although the approach is art-based, ideas will be general enough to apply to other content areas.
NYSSTL –Technology Leadership for the 21st Century - (Tags: nyscate08b02, nyscate08) Presenter: Dr. Lorraine Hohenforst & Stacy Ward Learn how the HFM and WSWHE BOCES have created the New York State Student Technology Leaders (NYSSTL) Club in 30 middle schools. Students help their teachers learn to use technology and their classmates prove their tech literacy, creating a community of 21st century learning in our schools.

AccelerateU: Student Online Courses - (Tags: nyscate08c03, nyscate08) Presenter: Michele Messenger AccelerateU is a New York State Student Online Course system, offering many High School and some Middle School courses. Courses range from core, to elective to Advanced Placement. Taught by NYS teachers and aligned to NYS standards, these courses can be used for credit recovery, scheduling conflicts or accelerated study.
