SAT FD-1

Presenter:  David Jakes, Community High School, District 99
Welcome to the Human Network:  An Introduction to Web 2.0
Web 2.0, or the Read/Write Web, changes everything.  Blogs, wikis, podcasting, social bookmarking and the learning networks of the new Web are beginning to have a profound effect on how learning takes place in schools.  But it's not about the tools; it's about learning. With that in mind, this session examines examples of best practice with these tools, and provides examples from around the world where these tools have amplified learning, and have done so successfully.  This presentation also addresses assessment strategies and provides teachers with a methodology for determining how well each tool impacts student achievement.

SAT FD (9:00am-3:30pm)
The Constructivist Celebration: Join Colleagues in a day long celebration of creativity, computing, and constructivist learning featuring Melinda Kolk, David Wagner, Gary Stager, and Sylvia Martinez.

NYSCATE is the first conference to offer this very special hands-on event since last year's sold out celebration at the NECC conference in Atlanta. Gary Stager will kick off the event with an inspirational keynote address. Then it's your turn to jump into exciting hands-on projects led by some of the nation's finest edtech leaders. Activities include claymation, digital photography, video game design, animation, simulation building or a walk through the gardens. The day ends with an opportunity for reflection and panel discussion, "Sustaining Constructivist Learning," featuring leaders of the Constructivist Consortium. All materials and a delicious lunch are included.
